Setting the scene for exploring values and careers

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. To establish the purpose of these sessions

  2. To establish a safe learning environment for students to be carried throughout all sessions

  3. To initiate students into thinking in a self-reflective manner

  4. To establish what students want to achieve from these sessions

  5. To establish a starting point of students’ understanding of values and careers from which to build upon in subsequent lessons

 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners can describe the components of a safe learning environment

  2. Learners can describe why an understanding of what is important to them is useful for their future

  3. Learners have a clear understanding of what they want to achieve from these sessions 

Exploring what is important to you through the concept of values

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. To help students understand what values are

  2. To help students explore different values and perspectives

  3. To encourage students to think about what their own values might be

 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners can describe what a value is

  2. Learners can acknowledge and appreciate different values and perspectives

  3. Learners can identify several values they hold 

Using strengths as a way to show your values through action

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. To help students understand that they can show their values through their behaviour and why this is important

  2. To help students understand what strengths are

  3. To encourage students to think about their own strengths

  4. To show students that strengths can be formed and adapted

 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners can describe ways in which values can be shown through behaviour and explain why this is important

  2. Learners can describe what strengths are

  3. Learners can identify some of their own strengths

  4. Learners have an idea of the strengths they wish to improve and how they plan to do this

Exploring the ways in which values and strengths can help in choosing and following a career path

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. To help students understand how values can be used to choose a career

  2. To help students understand how strengths can be important for preparing for a career

  3. To help students identify career choices based on their values and strengths

  4. To help students begin to explore their career choices in more depth

 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners can describe how their values can be used to choose a career

  2. Learners can describe how cultivating different strengths can be useful for preparing to enter a career

  3. Learners can identify some careers that match their values and strengths

  4. Learners can identify their knowledge gaps about their chosen careers and have a plan of how to fill these gaps

Reviewing learning from the sessions and identifying areas for further action

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. To help students create a feasible action plan that links to broader outside activities for following up on their chosen career choices

  2. To explore student development as a result of these sessions

  3. To help students understand and evaluate their personal learning journey and highlight areas on which they wish to focus in the future

 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learners can describe a clear action plan for achieving their career aspirations that links to broader outside activities

  2. Learners can describe their personal development throughout the sessions and identify areas they wish to develop further
